Lengthy OAC Winning Streak Snapped for Women's Tennis

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- For a long time, John Carroll Women's Tennis has stood as the royals of the Ohio Athletic Conference.

On Wednesday, an up-and-coming Otterbein team knocked the Blue Streaks off the heap.

For the first time in 2,545 days, the Blue Streaks lost an OAC match. The Cardinals snapped an unbelievable 55-match winning streak in conference play.

Dealing with some injuries and a long layoff, the Blue Streaks lost many close matches to Otterbein. Several singles sets came down to narrow margins and No. 3 doubles came down to a tiebreaker. Either way, the Cardinals' 9-0 win is a shock for the Blue Streaks, whose last conference loss was on May 2, 2015 in the OAC Championship vs. Ohio Northern. The program's last regular season OAC loss was on April 17, 2015.

No. 1 doubles began with a difficult defeat for JCU. Megan Reese and Mia Zivkovic experienced a tough 8-1 defeat. Caroline Chandler and Morgan Little experienced no better luck at No. 2, as they were shutout, 8-0.

The No. 3 doubles match turned out to be a memorable battle. Emily Day and Jaclyn Voss fought tooth and nail, but came up short, 8-7, as a narrow 8-6 tiebreaker was the difference-maker.

Reese played a close duel at No. 1 singles, but couldn't lift the sails, as she fell in a 6-4, 6-2 loss. Zivkovic also accepted a loss at No. 2 singles. Little played a close match at No. 3, but succumbed, 6-4, 6-4.

Chandler battled in a close on at No. 4. She dropped a nailbiter in the first set, 7-6, before her foe roared for a 6-0 set two win. Emily Day also had a close opening set, 6-4, before faltering in the second set, 6-2. Peyton Crumpler experienced the reverse, as she got out to a tough start in the opening set, 6-0, before battling back to a closer set two loss, 6-3.

John Carroll will look to rebound quickly. Capital is scheduled to come to University Heights on Friday at 1 pm.
