Women's Swimming & Diving Performs Nicely but Drops to #23 Findlay

The Blue Streaks racked up the second and third-place swims. 
FINDLAY, Ohio – While John Carroll Swimming & Diving lost its first dual meet of the season, the Blue Streaks have no reason to mope.

The Blue Streaks held their own against a top 25 Division II opponent, falling to the Oilers by a final score of 191-105. 

John Carroll tallied one win and plenty of second and third-place efforts on the day.

Results (except for diving)

The lone victory occurred in the 500 Free. Mairin Dalziel conquered the competition in the lengthy race with a top time of 5:22.68. Mary Hoffman also showed out with a third-place time of 5:34.25.

The meet opened with the 200 Medley Relay and a third-place effort. Maddie Panus, Olivia Goodman, Rachel Halapchuk, and Gwyneth Hamilton combined for a time of 1:54.61. 

Next up, Lauren Spence tallied a bronze finish in the 1000 Free. The senior snagged a time of 11:47.01. 

Dalziel continued her nice freshman season with a second-place time in the 200 Free. The youngster tabbed a time of 1:58.30. Ashley Lynch touched the wall for third with a time of 2:05.25. 

JCU recorded solid times in the sprint events. 

In the 50 Back, Maddie Panus took second place in 28.84 before tallying third in the 100 Back in 1:03.26. Lauren Koppelmann followed in third at 29.65. 

Shortly after, Allie Geletka (33.33) and Kaitlyn Hilty (34.82) took third and fourth place, respectively, in the 50 Breaststroke. In the 100 Breast, Goodman clocked in at third in 1:11.52.

Dalziel and Hoffman formed a formidable duo in the 50 Free, snagging second and third with times of 25.06 and 25.10. In the 100 Free, Hamilton tabbed a second-place finish of her own, clocking in at 55.70. 

In the 100 Fly, Olivia Goodman repped JCU well with a time of 1:01.53 for second place. Hoffman and Hamilton worked out well in the 50 Fly with third and fourth-place efforts. Goodman would appear later at third in the 100 IM with a time of 1:04.15. 

The fun concluded with a second-place finish in the 200 Free Relay. Dalziel, Hoffman, Hamilton, and Lynch combined for a time of 1:42.14, getting some valuable points in the JCU column. 

The Blue Streaks added some nice points in the diving well, as well. In the 1 Meter Diving, Catherine Steinwachs won the day with a score of 196.2. Sarah Hanlon followed in second at 158.1 and Annie Meunier rounded out the top three at 157.8. Kathryn Visco also looked good with a score of 155.4 in fourth, followed by Emily Gelske (151.8, 5th), Nicole Carlson (147.15, 6th), Sarah Roehrs (135, 7th), Ahnika Dauer (128.25, 8th), and Sarah Ruetschle (95.1, 9th). 

In the 3 Meter Diving, the veteran Steinwachs won with a score of 191.8. Visco (171.9, 2nd), Hanlon (145.2, 3rd), and Gelse (131.7, 4th) rounded things out for JCU. 

The Blue Streaks will now have a respite before the team's annual trip to Florida and the South Florida Classic in early January.
