Men's Lacrosse Skyrockets Past Ohio Northern on the Road

| By:
Box Score ADA, Ohio -- If you want to beat John Carroll University Men's Lacrosse, you have to stop or at least limit Skyler Blake.

Ohio Northern University could not contain Blake today.

As a result, the Blue Streaks stormed past the Polar Bears, 17-6, in a road win. John Carroll advances to 5-1 on the year with the win.

Blake set the tone less thean three minutes into the contest. The grad student scored a goal with 12:04 left in the first to open things up off a Cam Cecere assist. After a little lag between goals, Ian Flynn found twine at 5:11 on an unassisted gino. Blake went for back-to-back goals to end the first with JCU ahead 4-0.

Blake continued to roll in the second, needing just 25 seconds to hit the back of the net. Less than a minute later, Matt Berdysiak tallied a goal off a Cullen Zarek assist. ONU got on the board shortly after, stopping the bleeding at 6-1. Kevin Hack and Blake rounded out the first half scoring, setting JCU ahead, 8-1.

Jon Gaglio enjoyed a nice first half effort for the Blue and Gold, allowing just 1 goal and notching 8 saves in a great half.

The Polar Bears tried to claw their way back in with two goals to open the third, but seven straight JCU goals ended those hopes. Hack, Zaren, Blake, and Brendan Whitty all got in on the fun. Blake, Whitty, Flynn, and Bennett Gorman added helpers.

ONU added a few late goals but Reed Stuhlreyer and Berdysiak also tickled the twine, setting the final score at 17-6.

By game's end, Blake led all scorers with 8 goals and 3 assists in performance that no longer surprises anyone.

"That's just Skyler being Skyler. What he does is so impressive," said Head Coach Joe Rautenstrauch. "It's amazing to watch him game in and game out. He's being highlighted on every scouting report, which makes it tougher, but he still puts up video game-like numbers."

The Blue Streaks return to action on Saturday, hosting Heidelberg University for a 7 p.m. tilt.
