Late Push Not Enough As JCU Falls to Wentworth Institute of Technology

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. - The John Carroll men's lacrosse team dropped its third-straight match Thursday afternoon by losing 12-9 to Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The Blue and Gold were outscored 8-3 in the first half and the deficit was too much to overcome despite a fourth-quarter surge.

Sean Hogan did start strong by finding the back of the net less than two minutes into the game. However, the Blue Streaks lead would be short lived as the Leopards would tie the match less than one minute later.

Man-up opportunities are crucial and Wentworth Institute of Technology took advantage with 9:23 remaining in the first period to go up 2-1.

The Leopards closed the period strong, scoring with 1:12 to go up 3-1. Face off specialist Keegan Buffa for WIT won and scored six seconds later.

Sean Keane ended the first period on a high note notching a goal with 29 seconds remaining.

Right before the break, WIT found the back of the net with three seconds left in the half. At the break, JCU was close in the shot department by recording 18 compared to 25.

The Blue and Gold would claw back in the second half winning both the third and fourth period by one goal. Five minutes into the half, Josh Lombardo beat a defender and made the score 8-4.

Casey LaForce received a great pass from Larry Voss to score his second goal of the afternoon. LaForce would find the net again less than two minutes later to make the score 10-6, in favor of WIT.

In the fourth quarter, the Leopards scored the first three goals to build a six-goal advantage. JCU fought, as Lombardo, Keane, and Voss all tallied a goal before the final buzzer.

The Blue and Gold will be back in action on March 18th traveling to St. Vincent with faceoff scheduled at 7 p.m.
