Men's Lacrosse Fires Out to Large Win over Capital

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After an upsetting loss against the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets last week, the John Carroll University Men's Lacrosse team came out looking for revenge in their game against Capital University.

John Carroll advances to 2-1 on the year with the 27-9 win over Capital.

It took less than a minute for Matt Berdysiak to find the back of the net, scoring the first of 27 goals for the Blue Streaks.

Not even 10 seconds later, Skyler Blake finished a shot from an assist to Brennan Hein, beginning a continuous tirade of Blue and Gold offense.

John Carroll outscored the Raiders 10-2 in the first quarter. Three goals from Blake, two from Berdsiak, and scores from Bennett Gorman, Ian Flynn, Morgan Morrell, Brendan Whitty and Kevin Hack led the way for the Blue Streaks.

Slowing down in the second quarter, the Blue and Gold added six more goals to Capital's one in this period. Berdysiak, Blake, Whitty and Flynn added one more score each, while Cullen Zarek and Reed Stuhlreyer each recorded a goal in the scorebook.

The Blue and Gold went into halftime with a dominant 16-3 lead over the Raiders. They would push the forefront even further in the third quarter.

Blake was the first scorer coming out of halftime, with an assist from Kevin Hack. Blake finished two more shots in the third quarter, also adding an assist to his stats sheet.

John Carroll fell out of rhythm for the fourth quarter, dropping five goals to Capital late in the game, but it was well in hand by then. Blake was the only Blue Streak to finish a shot in this period.

The final score favored the Blue and Gold 27-9 over Capital with a spectacular performance by John Carroll.

The Blue Streaks had many different scorers during the game, showcasing their team effort in securing the win after a narrow loss last week at Baldwin Wallace.

In a day full of team highlights, Blake stood out as an individual with eight goals and two assists, breaking his season high of goals scored in a game. Whitty and Flynn each recorded a hat-trick for the day, while Berdysaik added four of his own.

The Blue Streaks are back in action against Marietta College on March 17 in their first home game of the 2021 season.
