The week began with the surprise revelation that John Carroll's strong start to 2019 had warranted a #3 national ranking by d3soccer.com and a #4 ranking by the United Soccer Coaches.
The week ended with a stern road test against a much improved Denison side, and the Blue Streaks passed by a 1-0 score Saturday night in Granville.
Despite a 10-1 edge for John Carroll in shots taken over the opening 45 minutes, the score was knotted at 0-0 by the time the match reached the midway point.
The breakthrough occurred in the 62nd minute. John Carroll worked its way into a corner kick, which Will Turrittin sent into the box and
Jared Ianiro finished with a header into the left side.
The lone goal of the evening would hold up as the Blue Streaks fended off the Big red attack the remainder of the match.
The defensive effort was one of the best of the year as the Blue Streaks held a team averaging over 13 shots per game to just five. John Carroll won the shots battle, 15-5, and also had six corners to Denison's one.
Connor Robinson made his second career start and earned his first career shutout with two saves.
The Blue Streaks are now 6-0 on the season while Denison -- which tied #13 ranked Capital earlier in the week -- slips to 3-2-1.
