Box Score For the third time in four seasons, the John Carroll men's lacrosse postseason run has ended in Rochester, New York
JCU took on host school Rochester Institute of Technology in the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The #1 ranked Tigers won the previous two meetings between the teams, and they made it a third consecutive victory over the Blue Streaks by a score of 20-5. The loss eliminates JCU from their fourth straight appearance in the tournament.
The Blue Streaks were held scoreless until
Bennett Gorman and
Kevin Hack, with an assist from
Colin Corcoran, each scored in the final five minutes in the half. RIT finished the opening 30 minutes with a 13-2 lead.
Jacob Betz started with six saves in the first half.Â
JCU scored the first and last goals of the third quarter, starting with
Nick Pompelia scoring with 12:51 remaining in the quarter. After RIT added three more goals,
Ian Flynn rounded the scoring in the 15-minute segment with 6:11 left to go in the third. The Blue Streaks' defense was able to hold the Tigers off the board for the remainder of the third quarter, and RIT lead 16-4.Â
Hack scored his second goal of the game after an early goal from RIT at the 8:11 mark. From there, the Tigers extended their lead with three more goals for the final 15-goal margin.
Clayton Karam was the team leader in ground balls and caused turnovers recording 13 and four respectively.
Cam Cecere would take 16 face-offs for the Blue and Gold, and he won six. In his final collegiate game in goal, Betz finished with 11 saves.
The 2019 season of the JCU Men's Lacrosse team ends with the Blue Streaks winning their fourth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, and winning their second NCAA Division III Tournament game in the program history in the first round over Hope.
