It came down to fourth singles and a third set, but
Adi Jha's experience in high tension matches served him well.
His come from behind 5-7 6-3 6-3 win over Zach Beaschler secured John Carroll's fifth and final point in a 5-4 win over Ohio Northern Saturday at the CSU Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio.
John Carroll has now won five consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference regular season crowns dating back to 2015.
Andy Siciliano and
David Sinense prevailed over Ohio Northern's top doubles duo of Vinh Thai and Noah Elliott, 8-6, to give JCU a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.Â
Hoang Do and Beaschler survived a marathon match at #2 doubles to beat JCU's tandem of
Gustavo Garcia and Andrew Trier, 8-7 (7-4).
Jha and
Parker Holyn made relatively quick work of Connor Christian and Andrew Cochran, 8-4, at #3 doubles.
JCU was one point away from winning after Garcia won at #3 and Triner won at #5 in straight sets. But wins by the Polar Bears at #1, #2 and #6 singles set the stage for Jha's dramatic win to clinch the Blue Streaks' title.
John Carroll is now 7-9 overall and 7-0 in league play.
