Scoreless Streak Ends But Winning Streak Continues As JCU Women's Lacrosse Rolls At Allegheny

The Blue Streaks followed up their first shutout in program history by holding the Gators of Allegheny College to just a single goal Wednesday evening in Meadville, Pennsylvania. While the scoreless streak was lated, the winning streak kept on going as John Carroll brought home a 16-1 victory.

JCU impressively set the program record by going 102 minutes and 14 seconds without allowing a goal, starting with the final 2:54 against Wooster on March 16, continuing with the 60 minutes against Muskingum on March 23, and then covering the first 39:20 of tonight's contest against the host Gators.

"Tonight's win was a full team effort," said John Carroll head coach Rachel Dell. "Very few adjustments were made during time outs or halftime. Our aggressiveness all over the field was the strongest part of our game tonight."

The Blue & Gold started off hot with two goals within the first minute and a half by freshman Emma Workman and senior Brooke McQuinn. The Blue Streaks had set the tone for the rest of the match early on.

With one goal from McQuinn, two from Alexis Guage, and hat tricks from Alex Heishman, Colleen Grombala, and Workman, the Blue and Gold built a 12-0 advantage at half.

The second half started a bit slower with JCU only scoring once in the first 12 minutes, when Guage became the fourth Blue Streak to earn a hat trick in tonight's match.

Shortly after, Allegheny broke their scoreless streak by scoring its lone goal.

Elyssa Zablo led the defense with nine saves and surrendering the single tally. This secured Zablo her fourth win of the season. The Blue Streaks defense contributed to this greatly, only allowing 14 shots to be taken all night.

Grombala ended the match with a game high five goals, making that 121 in her career at JCU. She also tallied one assist, one caused turnover, and four ground balls.

The Blue Streaks had a 34-14 shot advantage, as well as 27 ground balls compared to Allegheny's 18. Nine different Blue Streaks had at least one caused turnover as part of contributing to Allegheny's 26 miscues.

Next, JCU will take on the Cardinals of Otterbein University in a conference match this Saturday, March 30th at 1:00 pm at home in University Heights.
