Two goals within the opening 67 seconds of play turned out to be all the Blue Streaks would need to win Saturday afternoon at Buffalo State, but a late goal helped seal the deal in a 3-1 victory for John Carroll.
The match was not yet a minute old when
Sydney Scello connected for her first goal of the season. Her goal, set up by
Taylor Newhart, is the first by a Blue Streak in the first minute of a match since Nikki Bohrer tallied the only goal of a 1-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan at the 50 second mark on September 11, 2013.
John Carroll was not done.
Bailey Fischer waited all of 21 second to tally the Blue Streaks' second goal. Her fifth of the season and 37th of her career came off a pass from
Brittany Dufalla.
Once JCU gained a 2-0 lead, the match settled in and the score remained intact throughout the remainder fo the half. The host Bengals actually finished the half with a 6-5 shots advantage.
Buffalo State eventually broke through in the 61st minute when Olivia Colby headed in an Allie Reeds corner to cut the JCU lead in half.
The outcome hung in the balance until late in the affair, when Fischer tracked down a pass from
Rachel Braunegg and scored again on a long breakaway in the 84th minute.
Danielle DelGiudice made five saves for JCU as the Blue Streaks improved to 3-3-1. Buffalo State fell to 1-4-2.
