Blue Streaks Extend Win Streak to Four Games with 1-0 Victory Over Marietta

The John Carroll University Blue Streaks extended their winning streak to four games in their 2018 campaign, after a low scoring game against the Marietta Pioneers.

Game action was slow to start, as the the score remained tied 0-0 at the half time intermission. Shots between John Carroll and Marietta remained even at four a piece, with both teams failing to find the back of the net.

19:10 into the second half, freshman Jared Mattei found the back of the net sparking the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead. Mattei's goal was his third goal of the season, as he dribbled past the defender finding the upper right side of the goal. His goal was all it took to secure a win, as the Blue Streaks left Marietta with a 1-0 victory.

In goal, senior Liam McIntosh held the Pioneers scoreless for 90 minutes with two solid saves in the first half and three in the second. McIntosh now has 26 shutouts in his career, good for second all-time.

Marietta held the advantage in shots, out shooting the Blue Streaks 14-12. Five of the Pioneers 14 shots came on goal, as opposed to four of JCU's 12.

The Blue Streaks improved to 10-4-1 on the season, holding a record of 6-1-0 in the conference. The Blue and Gold also progressed to 4-3-0 on the road.

JCU will next travel to Tiffin, Ohio for their second straight Ohio Athletic Conference road game as they will take on the Heidelberg Student Princes on Wednesday, October 24 at 4:00 PM.
