Blue Streaks Turned Back In Final Non-Conference Road Trip

John Carroll's final road trip in non-conference play for the 2017 regular season turned out to be a largely unmemorable one, as the Blue Streaks were turned back twice by a suddenly red hot Ohio Wesleyan team.

On the date these two teams were originally scheduled to play, the Battling Bishops were losers of six out of seven heading into March 31. As fate would have it coming into today, the Ohio Wesleyan squad had won six in a row, and stretched that good run to eight in a row thanks to an 8-3 victory in game one and a 2-0 decision in game two over the visiting Blue Streaks.

JCU has now dropped a season-high six in a row after winning 11 of the previous 15 games.

Game One - Ohio Wesleyan 8, John Carroll 3

Ohio Wesleyan took advantage in the third and fourth inning scoring four runs in both frames.

The Blue Streaks scored first in the third inning, as Hannah Mizener doubled to right center field scoring Mikki Vance.

In the fourth inning, Victoria Eder drilled a double down the left field line that led to Miranda Noday crossing home plate. Eder went 2-3 on the day.

JCU scored one more run in the fifth inning, after Carly Simecek singled to right field and a throwing error advanced Lauren Cianciolo home.

Mikki Vance also scored a run for the Blue Streaks, who were outhit, 9-6.

Jennifer Patterson recorded the loss, allowing four runs, two of which were earned.

Game Two - Ohio Wesleyan 2, John Carroll 0

Things could have gotten out of hand early. Early in the second inning, and already down 1-0, starting pitcher Jessica Cook was in a jam with the bases loaded with one out. The sophomore pitcher would force a ground ball to Lindsey McKnight as she threw home for the force out. The following batter would fly out to Mizener in left field, getting out of the inning with limited damage.

That one run proved to be enough as JCU was held to five hits, of which only one was accrued after the fourth innings.

Cook pitched six innings, allowing two runs on ten hits.

Cianciolo, Simecek, McKnight, Angie Zappitelli and Jennie Broski each had one hit for the Blue Streaks.

Up next, the Blue Streaks will host Case Western Reserve University in their final regular season double header of the season, Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in University Heights. Ohio
