A 13-day lull in game competition played in favor of the well-traveled visitors.
Â
The Aurora University Spartans (6-1) came into Don Shula Stadium and beat the John Carroll University men's lacrosse team on Friday afternoon, 9-6, in University Heights, Ohio.
Â
With the loss, JCU drops to 2-2 on the season. This was the Blue Streaks' first game since February 25.
Â
Aurora, who has won the Midwest Lacrosse Conference championship each of the last four seasons, finished off a two-game, three-day trip to Northeast Ohio with two wins. This was the Spartans' fifth consecutive win but the first in which they did not reach double figures in goals.
Â
Leading the Blue Streaks was freshman
Skyler Blake who had three goals on the afternoon, taking his season mark to 15. Jason Koziol, the reigning MLC Offensive Player of the Year, had three goals of his own for the second time this season for Aurora.
Â
Sam Hiss started the scoring for the Spartans as he found the back of the net just 16 seconds into the match. The Blue Streaks answered off of Blake's 13th goal of the year just three minutes later.
Â
Aurora then went on a scoring spree, ending the half on a 6-1 run.
MacGregor Roberts scored the lone JCU goal.
Â
Aurora took a 7-2 lead into halftime, outshooting JCU 25-11.
Â
Each team found the back of the net in the third quarter, with Blake getting his second of the afternoon with six seconds remaining in the period
Â
Koziol scored his third goal of the day at the 9:49 mark of the fourth quarter, taking the Spartans lead back to six goals.
Â
Connor Pike answered less than three minutes later, netting his eighth goal of the season with 6:30 left in regulation, followed by Blake scoring his third of the day 26 seconds later.
Â
Down the stretch, Pike scored his second goal of the day off of a
Michael Hubert assist, bringing the Blue Streaks within three goals. The final push though was not enough as Aurora took the road victory.
Â
Up next, the Blue Streaks will travel to Albion, Mich. to take on the Albion University Britons on Wednesday evening. Opening face off is set for 7 pm.
