Box Score Beating Wooster on Friday night was an expectation for a regionally ranked team like John Carroll.

Beating a nationally ranked Oberlin team on Saturday afternoon would be a revelation for a regionally ranked team like John Carroll.

As it came to pass, facing Oberlin was the equivalent of a litmus test for the Blue Streaks. Though the Yeowomen prevailed by a 7-2 final score at Don Hunsinger Courts on the Oberlin College campus, JCU acquitted itself well.

The Blue Streaks (ranked #20 in the most recent Oracle/ITA Central Region rankings) have faced a number of quality opponents this season, but Oberlin (ranked #40 in Division III and #9 in the Central Region) was the first Division III ranked opponent they had faced in 2015-16.

The doubles advantage nearly swung John Carroll's way. Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini breezed to an 8-3 win in the #1 match, while Catherine Engel and Jennifer Stroyne forced a tiebreaker in the #2 match but ultimately fell by a 9-8 (7-4) score to Emma Brezel and Ariana Abayomi.

In the singles competition,  Lauren O'Malley continued her exceptional spring with a 6-3 6-0 win in the #1 match against Mayada Audeh. That would be the only Blue Streak tally, however, as Oberlin won the other five. Katherine Devine had the closest call, falling in a third set tiebreaker to Ariana Abayomi, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9

John Carroll is now 3-3 on the season, while Oberlin moves to 6-4.
