Women's Lacrosse Erupts For 21 Goals In Win At Waynesburg

The John Carroll University women's lacrosse team has spread out its individual points this year. Entering play Tuesday 11 players had recorded a goal or assist thus. Eleven would find the back of the net in Waynesburg, Pa. as John Carroll would roll to a 21-1 win over Waynesburg.

With the win John Carroll improves to 4-2. The victory marks the first win streak in program history. Additionally, JCU bested its mark for most goals scored in a game topping the 20 recorded against Houghton in the season-opener. Defensively, the lone goal marked the fewest allowed by the Blue Streaks this year.

The Blue Streaks won the opening draw and were off to the races. Roserita DiMillo fed Meghan Harte for the game's first scored five seconds into the contest.

Gina Vilsack took over offensively for John Carroll. The attacker netted four of JCU's next six goals handing JCU a 7-0 lead with 13:18 remaining in the first half.

Waynesburg's Makayla Vidosh rattled home the Yellow Jackets lone tally of the game with 10:48 left in the stanza.

John Carroll also received first-half goals from Grace Curatolo (2), Annamae Bolen, Chelsea Jackson and Kaley LaForce en route to building up a 10-1 lead at the break. LaForce's goal marked the first of the junior captain's career.

Defensively, the Blue Streaks kept their slate clean in the second half not allowing a single shot attempt by the Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg did not have a successful clear attempt over the final 30 minutes of play.

Offensively, John Carroll would have no problem scoring as the Blue Streaks found the back of the net 11 more times. JCU received scores from Curatolo, DiMillo (2), Harte, Vilsack, Olivia Barney, Marielle Buffamonte, Moira Kelley and Emma Schapp.

JCU recorded 17 assists on the day. Kelley (6) and Curatolo (5) led the way in the distribution department.

As a team, John Carroll finished with a 37-28 advantage in ground balls.

Waynesburg fell to 1-3 with the loss.

John Carroll remains on the road with a 2 p.m. tilt at St. Mary's (Ind.) on Saturday.
