The goals came early and often. Five in the first five minutes.
The opening onslaught set the tone for what would be a 16-2 victory for John Carroll in a non-conference match-up with Hilbert (NY) College Friday evening at Don Shula Stadium.
Friday's contest had experienced a number of location, date and time changes before finally settling in University Heights for a 6:00 p.m. start. Once the game commenced, it would be all Blue Streaks.
Meghan Harte scored twice in the opening 100 seconds as JCU raced out to a 2-0 lead.
The scoring did not stop there.
Gina Vilsack,
Grace Curatolo,
Roserita DiMillo and
Chelsea Jackson all had a hand in building the JCU advantage to 8-0 in the opening ten minutes.
Hilbert got on the board with a Megan Smith goal but John Carroll added two more to go on top 10-1. The Hawks scored with less than two minutes left in the opening half to make the score 10-2 at the break.
To erase any doubt of a comeback, the Blue Streaks were lightning quick out of the gate in the second half. Just 17 ticks of the clock in,
Annamae Bolen scored off a
Kaley LaForce assist, and then Curatolo tallied her 15th goal of the season 16 seconds later to push the lead to 12-2.
Harte would add two more goals, while Vilsack and senior
Moira Kelley (with her first varsity goal) rounded out the scoring as JCU pitched a second half shutout.
Mary Jo Murino made three saves as the Blue Streaks improved to 3-2. Hilbert dropped to 0-4 with the loss.
JCU outshot the Hawks 39-7, including 22-1 in the final 30 minutes.
