Box Score The potential for OAC Tournament seeding positions was on the line today in Ada when the John Carroll University volleyball team and Ohio Northern University squared off. While neither team had a tournament berth locked up at the start of the team, both units entered with identical 4-2 records amongst the crowed OAC.
Ohio Northern's persistent kept the Polar Bears ahead and a late come-from-behind stretch in the third set gave the match to ONU 25-14, 25-17, 25-19. John Carroll dropped to 18-9, 4-3 OAC while Ohio Northern improved to 16-8, 5-2 OAC.
Sara Kaminski surpassed Pam Jimison for the single-season record for most digs in the first set. Jimison's record had stood since 1995. Kaminski finished with 13 digs for the match.
Sarah Orlandi led the attack. The sophomore recorded a match-high 11 kills while hitting an astounding .688 needing just 16 swings. Freshman setter
Kit O'Shaughnessy finished with 26 assists to couple with 10 digs.
Ohio Northern raced out to a 7-point lead in the first set at 13-6 before John Carroll was able to make a run of its own. The Blue Streaks countered with a 5-0 run capped by a block by
Alex Ehrett and
Sarah Orlandi which forced the Polar Bears to call a timeout. Ohio Northern went on to close out the set with a 10-3 run.
JCU never led in the second set but finally heated up when
Leah Switalski and
Alexa Webber hit back-to-back kills at the end of the set which would carry the momentum over to the Blue Streaks in the final set.
Webber and Ehrett gave John Carroll its first lead of the afternoon to start the third set. Switalski roped in a kill to give JCU the 19-15 advantage before the Polar Bears closed out the match with 10 unanswered points.
