While the John Carroll men's swimming & diving team struggled to keep up with Oberlin College Friday night,
Drew Edson and
David Sved turned in a pair of encouraging perfomances for the Blue Streaks in a 143-86 loss in Oberlin, Ohio.
Results
Edson bested the field in the 200 Yard Freestyle, tapping the pad with a time of 1:49.89 to edge Sved (1:50.54) for first place. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, however, Sved returned the favor, slipping by Edson for the top spot with a time of 49.51.
JCU's only other first place finish at the meet came in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of
James McElroy,
Jacob Crain,
Michael Ian Goggins, and Edson overtook Oberlin on the final leg to take the crown.
Among second place finishers were
Anton Olson in the 1,650 Yard Freestyle,
Nick Holvey in the 50 Yard Freestyle,
Nick Bockanic in the 100 Yard Backstroke, Goggins in the 500 Yard Freestyle, and
Filip Crncec in the 100 Yard Breststroke.
A lack of a diver hurt the Blue Streaks points-wise Friday night, but they will be back in action on Jan. 25 when they host Hiram College at 6:00 p.m. at the Johnson Natatorium.
