Test Of Depth Does Not Hold Up In Close Loss To Baldwin-Wallace

Meredith Skaggs accounted for two of John Carroll's four victories in a close loss to Baldwin-Wallace

Box Score

John Carroll had its depth tested Wednesday afternoon in a match with crosstown and Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin-Wallace, as one of its regulars sat out with an injury.

Unfortunately for the Blue Streaks, the test was not passed as the Yellow Jackets prevailed 5-4 in a closely contested affair held at Raquet Club East in nearby Bedford, Ohio.

With regular #5 singles player and #3 doubles player Ashley Bauer (Harrison City, PA, Penn Trafford)sitting this one out for JCU, Baldwin-Wallace won all three matches affected by her absence.

In doubles play, Baldwin-Wallace won at the #2 and #3 spot, with only the #1 duo of Maria Ciccolini (Green, OH, Green High School) and Meredith Skaggs (Huron, OH, Huron)coming out on top for John Carroll by an 8-5 count.

In singles play, the Streaks got wins at #2, #3 and #4. Amy Marchlen (Pittsburgh, PA, Mt. Lebanon) got past Jennifer Greene (6-2, 6-3), Skaggs routed Andi Essig (6-2, 6-0) and Anna Navatsyk (Chardon, OH, Chardon)survived a second set loss to oust Emily Pelosi (6-0, 3-6, 6-3).

JCU is now 8-9 overall and 4-3 in the OAC.
