Softball Streaks Start OAC Schedule With Split Against Cardinals

Erin Riccardi gets ready to launch the game-winning home run in John Carroll's 5-4 game one victory over Otterbein

Box Scores:  Game 1 vs. Otterbein  /  Game 2 vs. Otterbein

John Carroll was able to rally for a win in game one, but came up short in a game two comeback bid to split its Ohio Athletic Conference opener with Otterbein Friday afternoon at Bracken Field in University Heights.

The Blue Streaks prevailed by a 5-4 score in game before falling in the nightcap, 7-4

JCU took a 2-0 lead early on in the opener, but Otterbein scored four runs in the top of the second inning, three of which scored on a dropped ball with bases loaded and two out.

The Blue Streaks would battle back, however, and tie the game in the bottom of the second on a two-run home run by Julie Marlowe.

With the score tied at 4-4, Erin Riccardi untied it with a prodigious blast over the center field fence in the fifth inning. It would be the final run scored by either team as JCU would take the win.

Brittany Danilov picked up her eighth win of the year in a complete game outing.

Otterbein would never trail in the second game, opening up with three first inning runs. Although John Carroll would strike back with two runs in the bottom of the first, it set off a pattern where every time the Blue Streaks closed the gap, the Cardinals would answer.

The fatal blow was struck in the fourth inning. Ahead 5-4, the Cardinals scored twice on RBI hits by Kendy Beers and Lauren Tibjash. JCU would be unable to answer the rest of the way, even with bases loaded and no out in the seventh.

John Carroll is now 12-4 overall and 1-1 in the OAC with the split, while Otterbein moves to 10-4 and 1-1 in league play.
