Mike Moran

Mike Moran completed his 32nd season as the head coach of the John Carroll men’s golf program in 2023-24. He passed the torch to Jeff Pawlowski in the summer of 2024.

Moran now serves as Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics, assisting in recruiting and fundraising.

In his time at the helm of the men's golf program, Moran led JCU to six NCAA Division III Championship appearances (with four finishes in the national top-ten). Moran’s teams won the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in 1994, 1995, 1997, and 2022. Moran coached over 45 JCU golfers to All-OAC honors. Additionally, 10 of his golfers have received All-American honors. Moran guided the team to 45 tournament victories since the 2008 season.

In 2022, Moran's Blue Streaks did the unthinkable, coming back from a 19-stroke deficit after Day 1 to win the 2022 OAC Championship. Johnny Roder led the way as co-medalist, JCU's fifth in program history. The Blue Streaks punched the program's first ticket to the NCAA Championships since 1997. For his efforts, Moran won his third OAC Coach of the Year honor after also winning in 1994 and 1997.

Moran was the mentor of the John Carroll University men's basketball program for 25 years, retiring in 2017. In 25 years of basketball under Moran, the Blue Streaks won 14 Ohio Athletic Conference championships and 12 NCAA Division III playoff appearances. In nine different years, his teams posted at least 20 wins.

Following his graduation from Xavier University in 1973, Moran began his coaching career as a freshman coach at Elder High School in Cincinnati. After three seasons, Moran moved back to his hometown of Cleveland to take the reins of the freshman squad at his alma mater then known as St. Joseph High School. He was elevated to junior varsity in 1981, then to varsity in 1982.

Mike Moran and his wife, JoAnn, have six children and are blessed with 18 grandchildren. They reside in Russell Township.
