Matt Clark

Matt Clark enters his sixth year as the Director of Recreation in the 2024-25 academic year.

In May 2024, Clark was honored with JCU Staff Council's 2023-24 Staff Member of the Year Award.

Clark has been in his position since November 2018. In his role, Clark oversees all recreation facilities, staff, programs, and services. This includes the day-to-day operations of the Corbo Fitness Center, Fitness Studio, IM Gym, and Racquetball Courts; management of 100+ student employees; group fitness and personal training; and intramural sports and club sports.

Prior to arriving at JCU, Matt worked in a variety of recreation and athletics settings. From 2015-2018, he was the Coordinator of Competitive Sports at the University of Dayton overseeing the intramural sports and club sports programs. From 2013-14, he oversaw the club sports program at Purdue University and coached the club baseball team. He has also worked in athletics facility operations and event management roles at both the University of Dayton and The Ohio State University.

Originally from Hilliard, Ohio, Clark is a two-time graduate of the University of Dayton (2011 and 2013) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Education. During his time at Dayton, Clark played four years of club baseball, worked as an intramural sports official, and served as the Graduate Assistant of Intramural Sports. He is currently a member of NIRSA and the Ohio Recreational Sports Association (ORSA), as well as the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA).

Clark lives in Cleveland with his wife, Courtney, and enjoys golfing, playing softball, and umpiring OHSAA high school baseball.
