Matt Nigro '20 enters his second year as the graduate assistant for Men's Soccer in the 2022-23 academic year.
In Nigro's first season as graduate assistant, he helped lead the team to a 14-4-4 record, as well as the program's second NCAA DIII Men's Soccer Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. John Carroll finished the regular season as OAC Regular Season Champions, and captured their fourth straight OAC Championship in the post season.Â
Nigro returns to University Heights following a stellar soccer career at John Carroll. A 4-year defender for the team, the Strongsville native led the Blue Streaks to OAC Championships in 2018 and 2019, captaining the 2019 squad as a senior. Nigro earned 2019 All-American honors from D3soccer.com (Second Team) and United Soccer Coaches (Third Team. The Saint Ignatius product won the OAC Defender of the Year award, hauling in First Team All-OAC and All-Tournament team recognition, as well.
After graduating with an Italian degree in May 2020, Nigro worked at Sensical for a year, leading a project to manufacture PPE. He's also coached youth soccer teams and worked at youth soccer camps.
With JCU Men's Soccer, Nigro will work primarily with the defense. He'll be pursuing his Master's in Education while serving as the GA.Â
