Travis Wood enters his third year as an assistant coach with JCU Baseball in the 2023-24 academic year.
During the 2023 season, Wood helped to lead the Blue Streaks to an OAC Tournament Championship along with an NCAA Tournament appearance. It was the program's second OAC title in history and third NCAA postseason appearance.Â
Wood previously served as an assistant coach at Thiel College during the 2021 season under the legendary Joe Schaly.
Before his stint at Thiel, Wood was a volunteer assistant coach at Kenyon and Cleveland RBI baseball.
A Hudson native, Wood played baseball for the Explorers, graduating from Hudson in 2015. Upon graduation, he committed to Ashland, playing 1.5 years for the Eagles. Wood then transferred to the University of Mount Union. Wood was a 4-year letterman for the Purple Raiders, playing catcher.Â
With Mount Union, Wood logged 43 hits, 11 doubles and three home runs in 84 career games. He also registered a .346 on-base percentage and a .344 slugging percentage. Behind the plate, Wood completed his career with a .983 fielding percentage and caught 13 runners stealing. In 2017, he was part of the Mount Union squad that went 31-11 overall and 16-2 in the OAC. That team went on to place second in the OAC Tournament.
Wood graduated from the University of Mount Union in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in sports business and a minor in business administration.
