The Blue Streaks head into the NCAC Championships with plenty of momentum

CHARDON, Ohio – In the final tuneup before the conference championships, John Carroll Men's Golf shined quite bright.

For the second week in a row, the Blue Streaks won a trophy, this time all the more sweeter considering the names attached.

Following a strong two rounds, the Blue Streaks won the Caschera/DiCillo Classic. Justy VonLehmden lit the way as the medalist.

The Blue Streaks certainly commemorated two JCU legends well, honoring Dan Caschera and John DiCillo. Without a doubt, the two Men of Carroll were smiling as the Blue Streaks played with joy and skill on Sunday and Monday.

RESULTS

"This was a great tuneup for this weekend. With 5 players in the top 9, everyone contributed to this win," said Head Coach Jeff Pawlowski '91. "Justy VonLehmden led the way with a great individual win and the rest of the team stayed consistent over the two days. We need to capitalize on our depth next weekend at Avalon Lakes."

VonLehmden guided the team with consistently excellent play. The junior turned in a 71 (-1) on Sunday, with three birdies on the front nine. Following an pair bogeys to start his final nine holes in the second round, the Saint John's Jesuit native caught fire, tallying four birdies in a row. Three par holes to finish set him at a 70 (-2) for the day, good for medalist honors by four strokes with a 141.

Wade Boyle trailed his teammate in second place with a very good weekend. Boyle began with an even 72 in his first round, with a strong finish, birdying three of his last four holes, including the ever-difficult 531-yard No. 18. The junior thrived on the second day, as well, with a 73 (+1).

London Hoyser trailed behind by just one stroke at 145. The junior concluded his first day at 73 with a sterling two-under-par effort on the back nine, aided by birdies on No. 16 and 18. Two more back-nine birdies on Monday helped him finish with a 73 (+1).

Daniel Donahue scuffled on Sunday with a 78 before roaring for a 72 on Monday. The Pittsburgher clipped back-to-back birdies on No. 5 and 6 to highlight a strong round and tie for ninth.

Austin Malley tied his teammate with a more level pair of rounds at 76-74-150. An impressive eagle on No. 18 on Sunday provided the top moment of the tournament, though back-to-back birdies on No. 6 and 7 on Monday sure were nice.

Max Devins (74-79-153) finished a few strokes back as the sixth man on the JCU squad.

JCU's four seniors celebrated by playing well this weekend. Cameron Bassel (78-78-156), Robert Kimmel (79-78-157), Andrew Schwartz (76-82-158), and Paul Litrenta (78-80-158) all performed solidly for the Blue Streaks.
