Baseball Concludes Florida Trip by Win over Keystone

Jake Corll pitched a gem in his second win of the spring break trip

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – John Carroll Baseball will return home from Florida in a good mood following a week in the sun with good results.

The Blue Streaks concluded the spring break trip to the Sunshine State on Saturday with a 9 am getaway game vs. Keystone College. Consistent offense and a strong start by Jake Corll got the job done.

With a 7-3 win over Keystone, JCU finished with a 4-2 mark at the RussMatt Invitational and sport an 8-2 record. That's the best mark that a JCU Baseball team has brought home from Florida since 2009.

Corll proved to be one of the top stars of the Florida trip. The senior provided six scoreless innings on Saturday, allowing just one hit and walking one in a stellar day. In 12 innings in Florida, Corell allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits, notching 11 strikeouts in all.

JCU tallied runs on sacrifice flies by Ethan Glossa and Jake Monaco in the third and fourth innings to open the scoring. George Haracz then found success for JCU in a big way, scoring on a wild pitch in the fifth. Then in the sixth, the star tripled to right field, plating Monaco and Konner Hauck.

Ahead 5-0, JCU stumbled a bit in the seventh, allowing three runs. But Noah Trojanowski, quickly becoming the team's best fireman reliever, doused the flames. The sophomore got out of the jam with JCU still ahead by two runs. John Carroll managed to provide an answer in the eighth, as Chris Bach plated two with a line drive single to left.

Michael Perry finished things off for JCU. The first year out of Rocky River went 1-2-3 in both the eighth and ninth innings, striking out three Giants to finalize the victory.
