Blue Streaks Roar for 19 Runs in Victory over Anna Maria

John Carroll scored 9 runs in the first inning and never looked back in a complete team win

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Perhaps frustrated by a low output in the second game of Tuesday's action, John Carroll's bats exploded on Wednesday.

The Blue Streaks erupted for 9 first-inning runs en route to a blowout in the third game of the RussMatt Invitational in Florida.

John Carroll Baseball cruised past Anna Maria College, 19-2, advancing to 6-1 on the season.

Singles by George Haracz, Jordan Suvak, and Ethan Glossa started the game, proving an ominous tiding for the Amcats. A sacrifice fly by Konner Hauck and a single by Brett Krugman quickly plated a pair of runs. Following walks by Christopher Salek and Dominic Trivisonno, Michael Pollard singled to score two and chase the starter.

The bullpen didn't fare much better, as a 2-run Haracz single, an RBI Suvak single, and an Ethan Glossa RBI groundout blew the game wide open. When the dust settled, JCU enjoyed a 9-0 lead.

Frank Freeman got the start after waiting around in the dugout for a while. The veteran got two innings of work before passing the pill to Tyler Alicea, who worked two innings. Jay Rinehart got the win as the most effective reliever with two scoreless frames, notching the second win of his career. Drew Walker made his collegiate debut in the seventh, working a scoreless inning.

Meanwhile, the JCU hitters nickeled and dimed the Amcats, as the only multi-run hit the rest of the way was a 2-run double in the second by Glossa.

Manager Bobby Bell got the opportunity to empty the bench. A total of 19 Blue Streaks got at-bats. Of the 19 batters, 11 Blue Streaks notched at least 1 RBI. Glossa hit 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and Suvak slapped three singles to lead the way.

That's what you call a team win.

The Blue Streaks will continue in RussMatt Invitational play, facing Grove City College on Thursday at 12:45 pm.
