Baseball Stumbles Against BW to Start Day 2 of OAC Tournament

JCU will play again on Friday at 4 pm

ALLIANCE – Following a fun Thursday opener, John Carroll Baseball came back down to earth on Friday.

On Day 2 of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, the Blue Streaks lost to Baldwin Wallace University, 9-2.

And so, the Blue Streaks will play again later Friday afternoon in an elimination game, with the winner moving on to the OAC Championship series on Saturday.

After BW's Brit Kostura no-hit John Carroll a week ago, the Blue Streaks got an early hit, as Erik Daugenti singled in the second inning. Dylan Sowers also singled in the third, but that would be the final JCU hit for some time.

In the meantime, the Yellow Jackets' bats provided steady offense. Baldwin Wallace scored a run in the second, third, and fourth innings, ending Kiayuan Baskerville's day after four frames.

Owen Gerba worked the fifth inning, allowing a leadoff single that turned into a run. Austin Miller covered the final three innings, as the Yellow Jackets extended the lead further to nine runs.

John Carroll finally got to Kostura in the ninth. A Patrick Sherman pinch hit single and a Michael Persichetti walk led to a 2-out Ethan Glossa triple to center. While the extrabase hit did end the shutout, Kostura finished off the complete game one batter later.

Kostura, one of the top hitters in the OAC, kept the ball in the infield for much of the day, garnering 13 groundouts. JCU's hitters only struck out 5 times.
