Baseball Swept at Baldwin Wallace

The Blue Streaks lost a pair of tough defeats on the road

BEREA – Friday did not bear out the results that John Carroll Baseball was hoping for.

However, all is not lost.

After losing twice today at Baldwin Wallace University to close out Ohio Athletic Conference play, 10-3 and 2-0, the Blue Streaks still have hope. If Muskingum University loses a game to first-place Mount Union, the Blue Streaks will be in the OAC Tournament. Mount and Muskingum play on Sunday at 1 and 3 pm.

Game 1
Ethan Glossa got John Carroll on the board with a solo homer in the top of the first. The Yellow Jackets responded in kind, slamming a 2-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Baldwin Wallace added one more run to the ledger in the first, and another in the second, getting ahead, 4-1.

A 2-out rally in the third looked to be in the cards for the Blue Streaks. Michael Persichetti doubled, Ethan Glossa drew a hit by pitch, and Connor Mayle walked to load the bases. But BW handled a grounder at third to prevent any damage.

John Carroll got back on the board in the fourth. After getting aboard on a fielder's choice, Dylan Sowers stole second and scored on a Jordan Suvak single to center. JCU headed into the fifth trailing, 4-2, as Jake Corll started to get into a rhythm on the mound with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings. But the Yellow Jackets managed to scratch across a run in the fifth and chasing Corll with two on and two out. Owen Gerba entered and walked two, as the strike zone seemed to constrict. BW headed into the sixth with a 6-2 lead.

A storm delay then stopped the game in its tracks. After a lengthy time off the diamond, the Yellow Jackets put it out of reach with a 3-run seventh inning.

At the plate, Suvak accounted for three of JCU's seven hits.

Game 2
The bats could not muster anything in game two, as Baldwin Wallace no-hit John Carroll.

Ethan Glossa drew a first-inning walk, Michael Persichetti got aboard in the sixth via a walk, and Carson Balfour got a pinch-hit walk in the eighth. But JCU never got a runner in scoring position.

Kiayuan Baskerville gave JCU a solid start, allowing just two runs in five frames. The sophomore struck out four and scattered five hits.

Frank Freeman looked strong in three innings of relief, striking out four and allowing just two hits.

Next Up
John Carroll Baseball hope to complete the regular season on Sunday, heading to Case Western Reserve for a non-conference game, weather permitting.
