Women's Lacrosse Nabs Another Win, This Time at Muskingum

JCU matched its best start to a season in program history

NEW CONCORD – Balanced scoring has been a key factor in the success of John Carroll Women's Lacrosse this season.

The unselfish approach was on full display on Saturday, as the Blue Streaks buried another Ohio Athletic Conference opponent, Muskingum University, 18-9. A total of 10 Blue Streaks registered a point and eight players logged goals.

And with the lopsided win, JCU matches its best start in program history (13-0) achieved by the 2021 Blue Streaks.

The early going was fairly even. Olivia Hanulak fired home the game's first goal and Mary Grace Godleski sent in a couple, though the offense was limited in the first period. JCU and Muskingum stood tied at 3-3.

John Carroll revved up the offense in an electric second quarter. Six different players found twine in the period, though Hanulak did the most damage with four goals. A 9-goal run in the last 10:41 of the period buried the Muskies, as John Carroll's onslaught went unopposed. What was most impressive was JCU's unwillingness to slow down, as the visitors scored three times in the final 90 seconds, including a Riley Knapp buzzerbeater.

JCU stood ahead, 14-4, heading into halftime, fully in control of the outcome.

Three cards in both the third and fourth quarters slowed the JCU offense. Muskingum kept the margin just under 10 goals for most of the second half, preventing it from becoming a full-blown domination.

But in the end, it really didn't matter, as John Carroll never relented control of the reins of this one, walking away with a clear victory over Muskingum.

Hanulak topped the team with 6 points, including 5 goals. Kenzie Krom and Godleski both achieved hat tricks. Meghan Weiner led the team with 4 groundballs. Abby Cassidy nabbed 9 draw controls.

Rachel Kroeger made 3 saves in the first half, ceding the crease to Josephine Lawler for the second half. Lawler tabbed 6 saves in her 30 minutes of work.
