Women's Tennis Earns First Spring Win, Sweeping Wooster

The Blue Streaks avenged last year's loss to the Fighting Scots

CHAGRIN FALLS – The second match of the spring was a non-conference match on paper, but not for long.

In a preview of a future conference rivalry, John Carroll Women's Tennis welcomed The College of Wooster to The Wembley Club in Chagrin Falls on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Streaks showed out in a dominant effort, rolling to a 7-0 victory over the Fighting Scots. This win meant a bit more after JCU fell in a 5-4 nailbiter one February ago.

The fun started with a masterclass in the doubles portion. Maddie Kavenagh and Evelyn Deren combined for a tone-setter 6-0 conquest in the top spot. Felicity Kolb and Emma Smith formed the #2 doubles duo, firing up a 6-1 win. Caroline Chandler and Madi Davila combined to complete the sweep, 6-0, at #3.

Kavenagh continued a strong start to her sophomore season, picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win atop the singles lineup. Deren experienced a similarly strong 6-2, 6-0 behind at the #2 singles spot. Kolb corralled a 6-1, 6-0 W.

Davila is off to a strong start for her collegiate career, as evidenced by a clear 6-1, 6-0 triumph at #4 singles. Smith, a fellow first year, also put on a show at #5, 6-2, 6-0. And the veteran Chandler did her job just as swiftly, 6-1, 6-2.
