Women's Soccer Conquers Wittenberg to Clinch NCAC Regular Season Championship

The Blue Streaks secure hardware in their first season in the NCAC, plus home field advantage

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – One year in the North Coast Athletic Conference, one trophy for John Carroll Women's Soccer.

The Blue Streaks handled business at Wittenberg University on Saturday to wrap up the regular season crown.

And just as importantly, John Carroll clinched home turf advantage in next week's NCAC Tournament.

The eventual game-winning goal occurred in the 30th minute.

Gracie Villwock caught up with a through ball that switched the field. The first year managed to get in behind the defender and finished as the keeper came out of her net. The third goal of the year for the Warren, Ohio native definitely is her most important one of her young career.

While Villwock's tally was the only of the half, that certainly wasn't the only chance. JCU stood ahead in shots, 7-4, and while Wittenberg put three of four on net, Madeline Martin turned all of them away.

In the 78th minute, Emily Patrzyk helped the JCU faithful breathe easier. The senior got on the end of a long ball over the center backs from Julia Ciura. The team captain took a touch by the keeper and finished past a sliding defender.

The tally, the seventh of the year for the Twinsburg native, marked the dagger in Wittenberg's hopes. Patrzyk ends the regular season tied for third in the conference in goals and second in points (18).

But the Tigers did not surrender in the second half, mustering eight shots. Martin notched four more saves in the second stanza for her seventh shutout of the season and 21st of her career.
