Women's Lacrosse Tripped Up in Regular Season Finale

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Locked into the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, John Carroll Women's Lacrosse welcomed rivals from Mount Union for the regular season finale.

The Blue Streaks looked to play the spoiler and rob the Purple Raiders of a share of the OAC Regular Season Championship.

The juggernaut Raiders proved too much for the Blue Streaks at Don Shula Stadium, 13-7.

John Carroll played a fantastic first quarter. Mount Union got out to a 2-1 lead, but JCU enjoyed the upper hand for much of the quarter. Riley Knapp, Kathleen Cagney, Olivia Hanulak, and Vivian Rung all netted pretty goals, setting the hosts ahead after one, 5-3.

But the vaunted Purple Raider defense took over from that point on. The visitors kept JCU off the scoreboard in the second quarter, firing ahead to an 8-5 advantage by halftime.

Hanulak ended the 17-minute scoring drought near the 10-minute mark in the third, but Mount Union responded with two more. Despite a fourth-quarter Hanulak tally, a comeback was not in the cards.

Hanulak, the star senior, was the lone Blue Streak with multiple points (4). However, JCU tested Mount Union's star netminder, Abby Lindkvist, with plenty of shots, as Lindkvist finished with 15 saves, which tied her career high.

JCU's defense performed well for much of the game, with Meghan Weiner doing plenty of work. The star junior from Rochester notched a career-high 7 caused turnovers, adding 3 groundballs. Jill McDonnell also did some nice work, tying for the team lead with 5 GB's. In cage, Josephine Lawler got the start and made 5 saves, while Olivia Munding checked into the contest in the third quarter and made 2 saves while allowing 3 goals.

The Blue Streaks will open the OAC Tournament on Saturday. JCU will head to nearby No. 4 seed Baldwin Wallace for the OAC Quarterfinal as the No. 5 seed with a 5 pm start time listed. Tickets are available here.
