Softball Falls Twice in Sunny Founders' Doubleheader at Bracken Field

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The weather was sunny at Bracken Field for Founders' Day, but the Purple Raiders spoiled the party.

John Carroll Softball dropped a pair at home by scores of 8-2 and 8-0.

Mount Union entered as the top team in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings and remain undefeated in league play after today.

Game 1
While the Purple Raiders struck first with a pair of runs, John Carroll authored a clear response. On the very first pitch in the bottom of the first, Kaylyn Odelli clobbered a perfect pitch over the wall in left center to halve the deficit.

After a quiet second frame, the Purple Raiders got back on the board in the third with four runs, courtesy of four straight singles and some smart baserunning. The visitors stood firmly in control with a 6-1 lead. More good baserunning by the Raiders led to another run in the fourth.

Odelli did not surrender, clubbing her second dinger of the game, lofting a solo shot over the fence in left center once again. Unfortunately the Raiders authored a response to stay in control and ultimately win, 8-2.

Game 2
The second game started almost the exact same as the first, as the Purple Raiders tallied two in the opening inning. While JCU looked good in its first ups with some great at-bats, but while Kaylyn Odelli reached second with a single and a steal, she was stranded.

The Raiders provided more cushion in the second with a trio of runs. Three more runs got across in the third, setting the margin at eight runs.

JCU threatened in the third, but left two aboard, also leaving Lexie Genovese aboard after she singled in the fourth. Danielle Orendi provided two and one-thirds innings of scoreless relief.

Up Next
The friendly confines of Bracken Field will welcome the Blue Streaks again on Saturday. John Carroll will host Marietta for an OAC doubleheader and Senior Day at 1 and 3 pm.
