Blue Streak Bullpen Comes Together in Victory Against Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The John Carroll baseball team's bullpen aided them to a 5-3 win over the Oberlin Yeomen in their final non-conference game of the season. The five arms who primarily come in relief: Roger Simon, Alex Wu, John Gavric, Samuel Basso, and Christian Bedolla combined to allow only three hits and four walks all game to power JCU.

Basso earned the win, while Bedolla recorded a save in his collegiate debut, pitching the final two innings and not allowing a single base runner.

This was John Carroll's second win over the Yeomen this season, as they defeated Oberlin 15-5 at Schweickert Field back on April 16.

Offensively, the Blue Streaks got it going in the second with three runs, starting with a Chase Diosy RBI single. Then, during Sean Connolly's at bat three batters later, Diosy would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. Jared Orwell then scored on another wild pitch during Connor Mayle's at bat to go up by three.

The Yeomen tacked on two runs in the third when Wu relieved starter Simon. Jacob Thompson hit an RBI single, and Ethan Hurwitz would score him just two batters later on a sacrifice fly to make it a one score game.

Oberlin tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth on a Sean Livingstone RBI double.

JCU added its final two runs in the sixth and eighth innings, respectfully. Joe Olsavsky hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3, and Connolly reached on a fielder's choice to score Orwell.

Basso pitched in the three innings before Bedolla and surrendered no hits and only one baserunner as well.

The Blue Streaks will play their final regular season games of the year in a double header against Baldwin Wallace in Berea on Friday, May 5, with first pitch at 1 p.m. If JCU wins at least one of the games, they will clinch a spot in the OAC Tournament as the #4 seed.
