Men's Lacrosse Gallops Past Fighting Muskies on Senior Day

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The John Carroll Men's Lacrosse team had an exciting senior game Saturday afternoon against Muskingum.

The Blue Streaks ended their senior day on a high note, with a win over the Fighting Muskies, 17-3.

John Carroll advances to 11-2 on the year with one game left to play after today's dominant win.

During the first quarter, both teams were neck and neck. Matt Berdysiak gave the Streaks the first goal of the game within the first minute, though soon after, the Muskies returned the goal. Berdysiak soon netted another on an Alexander Sykas assist. Muskingum tied it, but then an important goal by Colin Morrissey followed, placing the Blue Streaks entering the second quarter, 4-2.

In the second quarter, the Blue Streaks played their game, as they continued to score goals rapidly. Berdysiak added three goals back-to-back-to-back, while Morgan Morrell, Aidan Dugan, and Josh Lombardo contributed to the scoreboard as well.

Muskingum's defense attempted to stop the Blue Streaks as they were gaining momentum, with Muskie goalie, Trevor Connolly, tallying plenty of saves. However, JCU's offense remained unbeatable. John Carroll entered the second half strongly with a score of 10-2.

The 3rd quarter consisted of the John Carroll's defense causing turnovers by the Muskies and the offense showing no sign of slowing.

Berdysiak, Morrissey, Morrell all added another goal, as well as a marker by Brendan Hein. The Blue Streaks charged into the fourth quarter with a huge 14-2 lead.

Both teams continued to move the ball around the field in the fourth. At 9:57 of the quarter, the Muskies finally ended JCU's 12-0 run, but John Carroll answered with two goals in the next 90 seconds. Morrell tabbed the first goal and Berdysiak nabbed the next tally, his team-best seventh of the game and the 150th of his career. The senior also surpassed 200 career points. Meanwhile, Morrell rolled past 150 points during the last game, and is eight goals away from his 100th.

Ian Venard capped off the scoring with a goal, a fitting end to Senior Day.

Nicholas Yemma enjoyed a nice day with 16-of-22 faceoffs with 10 groundballs. Brendan Hein led the defense with 6 groundballs and 2 caused turnovers. Jon Gaglio tallied 7 saves, and Oliver Hammond got the start, making 1 save.

John Carroll is set to face Heidelberg at the Don Shula Stadium to close out the regular season on Wednesday, April 26 at 7 pm.
