JCU Earns Crucial Tie Against Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio - John Carroll rallies from two goals down to earn a crucial tie against Capital Saturday night. With the tie, the Blue Streaks remain atop the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) standings with a 6-0-1 record, while Otterbein earned a 4-0 win against Baldwin Wallace and improved to 6-1 in the conference.

The Blue Streaks have now gone 14 straight matches without a loss, with the defense playing inspired by not allowing more than two goals in a single game this year.

The first half was a back and forth battle between John Carroll and Capital. The Blue Streaks had two shots on goal, but tallied 11 total shots in the half, compared to Comets 12 total shots.

Capital found the back of the net first in the 22nd minute, as Lexi Snider received a through ball and hit the left post to score her ninth goal of the year.

Freshman goalkeeper Madeline Martin Kosier recorded five saves in the first 45 minutes of action.

In the second half, Capital was able to score its second goal, this time off a corner kick. Tori Kittrell played a ball into the back of the box, as Kosier aggressively went for the ball and it was slightly outside of her extended hands. Sophia Leonetti headed the ball to give the Comets a 2-0 edge.

John Carroll would not go away, as Abby Smith recorded her second goal of the season with a strike from outside the box and Emma West was credited with the assist.

Smith was not satisfied with a goal, as five minutes she would find Madyson Rosado for the equalizing goal.

The junior from North Ridgeville played the ball off one bounce before firing a remarkable shot in the top left corner tying the match at 2-2. The final 19 minutes of action would be tight, but neither squad would find the go-ahead goal.

John Carroll is now 10-1-4 on the year, while Capital is 9-6-2 and 4-2-1 in the conference.

With two matches remaining John Carroll controls its destiny for the #1 seed in the upcoming OAC tournament, as the Blue Streaks will host Mount Union Wednesday October 25th inside Don Shula Stadium at 7 p.m.
