Men's Lacrosse Fires Past Pioneers for OAC Opening Win

MARIETTA, Ohio -- An impressive second half pushed the John Carroll Men's Lacrosse team over the Marietta College Pioneers in the Ohio Athletic Conference opening game.

The Blue Streaks defeated the Pioneers by a final score of 13-7, as John Carroll boosts its season record to 7-1.

The Blue Streaks were the first to score in the game, as Ian Flynn finished a shot into the back of the net only three minutes into the match up.

The Pioneers countered with a quick two goals, as they led John Carroll 2-1 for the majority of the first quarter. With just under three minutes left in the quarter, Flynn added another goal for the Blue and Gold to rebalance the score at the end of the quarter, 2-2.

John Carroll's offense kept the momentum going into the second quarter, as the visitors opened up with Flynn's third goal of the game off of an assist from Morgan Morrell

Staying strong on the defensive end, the Blue Streaks were able to hold Marietta to just one goal as the game remained tied 3-3 going into halftime.

Matt Berdysiak was the first to score for John Carroll in the third quarter as he pushed the momentum in favor of the Blue Streaks early on. Morrell added a goal of his own quickly following Berdysiak as the Blue and Gold led the Pioneers 5-3 with 13 minutes in the third.

A pair of quick goals at the end of the third quarter pushed the Blue Streaks ahead by four, as Kevin Hack scored his first of the game and Morrell added his second.

It was just 27 seconds into the final quarter when Berdysiak earned his second goal of the game in a man-up situation. Hack was credited with the assist. Flynn scored twice more as he added to his already impressive offensive day. The Blue Streak offensive was relentless, as Hack, Tanner Gill-Snow and Jake Caress scored late fourth quarter goals to finalize the victory for John Carroll.

The Pioneers did not give up without a fight, though, as they found the back of the net four more times in the fourth quarter before the buzzer finally sounded signaling a Blue & Gold victory.

Flynn stabilized the John Carroll offense during the game, as he finished with five goals. Morrell, Berdysiak and Hack each contributed two goals and at least one assist for the Blue and Gold.

The Blue Streaks will be back in action on Wednesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. John Carroll will head to Westerville to take on the Otterbein Cardinals in their second OAC match up of the season.
