Beebe Provides a Victory Amidst Non-Conference Loss to DePauw for Men's Tennis

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Early in the season, John Carroll Men's Tennis typically plays tough teams to prepare for the Ohio Athletic Conference stretch of the season.

After not having non-conference play in 2021, the Blue Streaks are back to a fully, challenging schedule in 2022. The rugged non-conference slate continued on Sunday, as the Blue Streaks faced DePauw indoors at Cleveland State University.

The Blue Streaks unfortunately couldn't secure a win against the Tigers, falling 8-1.

The lone win of the day occurred at No. 3 singles. Mark Beebe started off behind, losing the first set, 6-2. He bounced back with a 7-6 win, forcing a tiebreaker, which he won. Beebe did the honors via a 10-6 score.

Beebe paired up with Gustavo Garcia at No. 1 singles, but did not have success there, as the pair lost, 8-2. Logan Langovsky and Grant Sarnowski played it tight at No. 2 singles, but also came up on the losing end, 8-5. Nathan Palinkas and Aeneas Hines formed a new tandem at No. 3, but had no such beginner's luck, losing 8-2.

Garcia again stood at the No. 1 singles spot, and fought to the end. But the veteran came up on the wrong end of a 7-5, 6-4 affair. Langovsky looked good at the start at No. 2, falling just 6-4 in the opener, but then stumbled in set two, 6-2.

Sarnowski has played strong all year, but dropped a tough one to a good foe at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Palinkas fared no better at No. 5, losing 6-1, 6-2. And Hines also lost at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2.

The Blue Streaks' tough stretch of non-conference play has now come to a close, as OAC play now comes into view. John Carroll's next match will be on Saturday vs. Mount Union, the squad's first conference showdown of 2022.
