Women's Tennis Battles But Falls Short at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- Friday's score indicates a lopsided result, but the battle between John Carroll Women's Tennis and the Oberlin Yeowomen was anything but.

The Blue Streaks dropped an 8-1 defeat to Oberlin on the road on Friday afternoon.

The overall score tells the tale of a tough day for the Blue & Gold, but the Blue Streaks did not fail to put up points. In fact, the Blue Streaks were only shut out of one set on the day.

The doubles matches were especially well-fought.

Megan Reese and Mia Zivkovic formed a formidable duo like always at the No. 1 doubles spot, but the Yeowomen closed things out well. JCU's top tandem lost a 8-6 war to open things up.

At the No. 2 slot, Morgan Little and Caroline Chandler paired up. The sophomore-freshman combo absorbed an 8-3 loss. At the No. 3 spot, Peyton Crumpler and Jaclyn Voss worked together, but also fell short via an 8-4 final.

The lone win of the day for JCU occurred at No. 1 singles. Megan Reese earned a 6-2, 7-6 win, thanks to a 7-3 tiebreaker. Reese's wonderful win provided the day's highlight for JCU.

Mia Zivkovic dropped a narrow 6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 2. Morgan Little started solidly at No. 3 with a closeCa 6-4 loss in the opening set before falling off for a 6-2 defeat in the second set. Caroline Chandler suffered a 6-1, 6-2 setback at No. 4 and Jaclyn Voss experienced a 6-2, 6-0 defeat at No. 5. The No. 6 match took the longest, as Peyton Crumpler dueled to the end. Unfortunately the freshman fell off after winning the opener, 6-3, as she then dropped sets of 6-3 and 6-2.

John Carroll, now 5-4 on the year, will look to bounce back on Sunday vs. DePauw.
