Men's Basketball Can't Clip Cards in Westerville

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The John Carroll Men's Basketball Team traveled to Otterbein on Wednesday to take on the Cardinals in their final road contest of the regular season.

A slow start proved to be too much to overcome, and despite a strong comeback effort, the Blue Streaks fell to the Cardinals by a final score of 79-73.

The first half was a rough one for the Blue Streaks. Otterbein quickly jumped out to an early lead, quickly taking a commanding double-digit lead. After the initial shock of the opening punch by the Cardinals, the Blue Streaks woke up and began to battle back.

The Blue Streaks managed to cut into a 27-11 lead in the later stages of the half, and managed to keep even with Otterbein in the final seven minutes, heading into the half down 44-30.

The second half took on a much different look for the Blue & Gold. Hugh Brown and Mason Trubisky helmed a ferocious defensive charge for all 20 minutes. After the initial Otterbein explosion, the Blue Streaks had full control. Combined with the improvement on defense, Eric Hanna led an offensive charge that quickly closed the gap.

In the blink of an eye, the Blue Streaks had turned a 14-point deficit into a 2-point gap at 56-54. The game took twists and turns from there on out, and the Blue Streaks continued to fight to wrestle the lead away from the Cardinals. Hugh Brown, Eric Hanna, and PJ Flannery all caught fire on offense and kept the Blue & Gold within striking distance. However, a late burst by Otterbein put them up for good, and the Blue Streaks fell once again on the road.

A flurry of players offered solid performances for the Blue Streaks. Jackson Sartain and Mason Trubisky topped the team with 15 points each, and Hugh Brown added a solid 13 points.

For the Cardinals, Cam Evans led all scores with 21 points, Patrick Dallas had 18, and Justin Carter had 17.

The Blue Streaks begin their final homestand of the season on Saturday, as they look to get back in the win column against Ohio Northern.
