Men's Basketball Rolls Past Capital in Home OAC Conquest

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- This afternoon, the John Carroll University Men's Basketball would be in the DeCarlo Center for another Ohio Athletic Conference matchup, as the Blue Streaks took on Capital University.

The Blue & Gold were looking for redemption following their first loss of the season in a tough three-point loss to nationally-ranked Mount Union.

#9 John Carroll extended their record to 7-1 on the season, earning a dominant 77-59 win for a positive bounceback.

The Blue Streaks came out slightly flat-footed in the opening minutes of the contest, digging themselves a seven-point deficit in the first five minutes of the game, as they trailed 11-4. The Blue Streaks began to bounce back, as they managed to get the game to 15-15 about four minutes after that. Shortly after, the Blue Streaks took the lead, and would not lose the advantage for the remainder of the game.

The home team took this momentum and ran with it, outscoring their opponents 21-6 for the remainder of the half and not allowing Capital to score a field goal for an entire 9 minutes and 20 seconds. The Streaks headed into the half with a comfortable 36-21 lead.

The second half started with John Carroll coming out strong, and they kept a consistent scoring pattern, seeming to have an immediate response for any offensive progress made by Capital. With that level of consistency, the Blue Streaks went on to capitalize and take another win on the season, a dominating display with a final score of 77-59.

The Blue Streaks were on top with some great field goal numbers, shooting 49.2% from the floor on 65 shots, as well as a stellar 42.1% from behind the arc. Dominating inside was another key in scoring tonight, as JCU would score 44 points in the paint total.

Pete Moran's men would spread the wealth well tonight, with four different players in double digits, including Luke Frazier, Will Yontek, Luke Chicone, and Eric Hanna. Hanna led scoring with 18 off the bench, capitalizing particularly from three-point range, shooting 5-of-10 from downtown. A true testament to the team's depth and involvement values.

The Blue Streaks improve to 7-1 on the season and will travel down to Marietta a week from today to face Marietta College, a historically stellar OAC basketball school with a 6-2 record thus far. Tipoff will be at 2 p.m.
