Wrestling Tallies 3-1 Record at Olivet Duals in Michigan Roadtrip

Brody Arrundale helped to lead the Blue Streaks in a busy day in Michigan. 
OLIVET, Mich. -- The John Carroll Wrestling team made the journey up to Michigan, to compete in the Olivet Duals.  

On Saturday, November 19, the Blue Streaks wrestled four duals against Alma College, Muskegon Community College, UW Platteville, and Olivet College.  

The Blue Streaks went 3-1 on the day, only losing to UW Platteville.

Match 1 vs. Alma

The Streaks dominated Alma College, 43-12, with Andrew Perelka (133 pounds) leading off with a pin (0:41). This is Perelka's 42nd pin, which distinguishes him in John Carroll history as the wrestler with the most career pins, surpassing fellow Brecksville alum Mike Markovic, who had set the mark back on January 29, 2002.

Anthony Santagata (141 lbs.) and Caiden Rodgers (184 lbs.) both also picked up falls (2:14 & 2:40). 

The Blue Streaks scored bonus points from Daniel Devera (174 lbs.), who scored a technical fall (16-1), as well as Luke Reicosky (165 lbs.) and Jesse Kanatzar (197 lbs.) who both won by major decisions (11-0 & 14-5)

Match 2 vs. Muskegon

John Carroll University beat Muskegon 39-12, with six wrestlers scoring bonus points.

Three John Carroll wrestlers pinned their opponents, Andrew Perelka (133 lbs) at 1:38, Liam Helon (165 lbs.) at 2:19, and Tom Blackwell (285 lbs.) at 1:29.

Patrick McGraw (157 lbs.), Daniel Devera (174 lbs.), and Jesse Kanatzar (197 lbs.) all earned technical falls (15-0, 17-2, & 17-2).

Match 3 vs. Platteville

In the sole loss of the day, Platteville defeated John Carroll 27-16.

Andrew Perelka (133 lbs.) got his third pin of the day(1:44), which was the lone pin of the dual.  

Also scoring bonus points, Patrick McGraw (157 lbs.) earned a major decision (12-2)

The other two John Carroll wins came from Luke Reicosky (165 lbs.) and Caiden Rodgers (184 lbs.), both winning in sudden victory.

Match 4 vs. Olivet

In the most exciting dual of the day, John Carroll narrowly beat Olivet 24-21.  

Scoring falls were Andrew Perelka (133 lbs.), and Brody Arrundale (184 lbs.). Perelka got the fall at 0:17, making him 4-0 on the day, with all 4 victories being by pin in the first period.  

After Olivet scored a last-second takedown to win at 174, the Comets took a 17-14 lead heading into the final three bouts. Brody Arrundale brought the momentum back to the Blue Streaks with a first period fall at 1:42, bringing the score to 20-17 for JCU. Jesse Kantazar secured the team victory with a 13-1 major decision at 197. 

"It felt great to get a big win when the team needed it," Arrundale remarked, "Competing healthily again, after all the injuries in the past year, makes wins like that so much better."

Patrick McGraw (157 lbs.) won his match with another technical fall (19-4), his second of the day, and finished 4-0 on the day.  

Jesse Kanatzar (197 lbs.) was 3-1 on the day, with all three wins scoring bonus points.

Luke Reicosky (157 lbs.) won his final match 7-0, his third win of the day, making him 3-0.
