Men's Soccer Extends Winning Streak with Conquest of Yellow Jackets

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The dominance of John Carroll Men's Soccer over crosstown rival Baldwin Wallace continued tonight.

The Blue Streaks dealt the Yellow Jackets a defeat at Don Shula Stadium on Wednesday night, 1-0, stretching the program's win streak over BW to 12 matches.

While it was a low-scoring affair, the Blue Streaks led in most offensive statistics due to their stifling defensive effort. Baldwin Wallace would only total four shots in the match compared to John Carroll's 19 shots.

Junior forward Patrick Koenig kicked off the match with a quick goal in the 15th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Nicholas Graeca. It was a quick strike for Koenig, and proved to be a vital one.

Even though there was no score for the rest of the match, Koenig accounted for seven of the 19 shots from JCU.

On defense, John Carroll was powered by veteran leadership, including the Man of the Match, Noah Lindon.

"It was great to get an early lead in the first half," said Lindon. "We had control of the game heading into the second half. Baldwin Wallace battled back a little harder in the second half, but we stayed tough the whole time".

Lindon has been a staple of the John Carroll Men's Soccer program, as the senior from Avon has provided the energy for JCU off the bench. He logged 44 minutes tonight. Junior goalkeeper Jake Vogrin tallied two saves off the Yellow Jacket's four shots.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks advance to 9-3-1 overall, including a flawless 4-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

The Blue Streaks will look to continue their hot streak this weekend against Ohio Northern this Saturday at Don Shula Stadium. John Carroll and Ohio Northern have played plenty of classics over the years, and this one should be good, too, as ONU stands at 3-0-1 in OAC competition.
