Men's Basketball Defeated by Capital in Friday Night Road Affair

BEXLEY, Ohio -- The Blue Streaks traveled down to Bexley for some Friday night basketball against Capital University, with a quick turnaround from Wednesday's game in Alliance

A tight first half had a good game brewing, but an offensive second half explosion from Capital shut down JCU's hope for victory, falling 97-79.

With the loss, the Blue Streaks drop to 7-9 overall on the year.

The first half was an entertaining, physical battle. Both teams played tough defense and hit tough shots, with Eric Hanna (21 points, 10 rebounds) leading the way for the Blue Streaks.

Capital's solid sharpshooting propelled them to an early lead, and it was what kept them ahead throughout the first half. There were several lead changes early, but Capital gained the largest lead of the half at 10, and were able to hold the lead for the rest of the contest.

JCU battled back, however, cutting into Capital's leads several times, trimming it to as little as one late in the first. Capital's sharpshooting struck again in the final seconds, when Kaleb Crawford banked in a triple as time expired, sending the Blue in Gold into the locker room down four points.

The second half was all Capital. Early in the frame, both teams were trading buckets, with Eric Hanna and Jackson Sartain (11 points) anchoring the JCU attack. With the game at 59-55, Capital's offense exploded, and what was a 4-point lead for Capital turned into a 15-point lead in short order.

From that point on, the Blue and Gold continued to fight, but were unable to mount a comeback, and in the end fell to Capital.

Eric Hanna, Jackson Sartain, and Connor O'Toole guided the Blue Streaks in scoring, with 21, 11, and 11 points, respectively. For Capital, David Stanford and Kaleb Crawford lead the team with 21 and 19.

The Blue Streaks get to enjoy the weekend, and come back home for a game against the Student Princes of Heidelberg on Wednesday, February 2.
