Penn State Behrend Overwhelms Women's Soccer in Non-Conference Finale

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- After a quick start, the John Carroll University Women's Soccer team gave up five consecutive goals to fall in their final non-conference match of the season against Penn State Behrend, 5-1.

Just 8:12 into the match, Blue Streaks' midfielder Grace Monnin struck for a goal, scoring from beyond the penalty box and giving John Carroll a 1-0 advantage. Monnin, off to a fast start this season, is now second on the team with three goals.

The Blue Streak defense was able to hold off the Lions' barrage of shots until Trinity Prestash broke through for a goal in the 44th minute, evening the score at one a piece heading into halftime.

"Obviously, they are a great team and ranked in the region," said John Carroll Head Coach Michael Marich. "This gave us a great chance to see where we are at."

Despite hanging tough in the first half, the second half got off to a rough start as Penn State Behrend's Karla Ochoa struck the back of the net on an assist by Prestash. Then, three minutes later, the Lions' Emily Clopp made the score 3-1 off an assist by Ochoa.

Both Ochoa and Clopp would score again for the Lions, as Ochoa drove in a goal in the 77th minute. Clopp scored the final goal of the contest in the 79th minute to give the Lions a 5-1 victory.

The five goals scored by Penn State Behrend is the most John Carroll has ever allowed in a home non-conference matchup.

"This was a great chance to learn from our mistakes and get ready for the weekend," stated Marich.

Looking ahead to this weekend, the Blue Streaks (5-4-1) travel to New Concord, Ohio, to take on Muskingum University (2-8-0) on Saturday in John Carroll's first Ohio Athletic Conference game of the season.
