Otterbein Takes Both Games In Saturday Afternoon Doubleheader

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Weather was not an issue this Saturday in University Heights as the sun was shining on a beautiful afternoon at Schweickert Field.  
 

In game one, the Blue Streaks fell 6-4.  In game two, Otterbein bested John Carroll 13-11.
 

John Carroll falls to 16-19-1 on the season after today's set of games and 13-18-1 in the OAC. Tomorrow, the Blue and Gold will play the Cardinals in Westerville in another double-header matchup.
 

Game One

Errors were the story of the first half of the double header.  The Blue Streaks committed 4 errors while the Cardinals had zero.  Otterbein scored 6 runs on 7 hits as a result.
 

After 4.5 innings of scoreless baseball, a Michael Anderson RBI single to right field in the bottom of the 5th scored Tyler Cyrus and broke the deadlock to get the Blue Streaks on the board first.
 

Otterbein answered quickly with 2 runs in the top of the 6th to take a 2-1 lead.  Noah Sprowls scored off an error to earn the Cardinals first run followed by Zak Repar adding another run on a passed ball.
 

The Cardinals would blow the lead open in the top of the 7th.  A Ryan Mitchell RBI double scored Adam Stotler to push the lead to 3-1.  A Luke Barber home run to right center field scored Mitchell and extended the lead to 5-1.
 

The Blue Streaks rallied by loading the bases in the bottom of the 7th with no outs.  A Landon Glazer RBI single scored Joe Olsavsky.  Anderson added his 2nd RBI of the day off of a single that scored Cyrus and cut the Otterbein lead to 5-3.  JCU cut the Otterbein lead to 5-4 off a Sam Heaton RBI single that scored Bennett Cavaretta.
 

A Mitchell sacrifice fly in the top of the 8th scored Zach Franz and opened the Cardinal lead back out to 6-4 capped off the scoring for game 1.
 

Pitcher Mitchell Midea (6.1 innings, 5 hits & 6 strikeouts) earned the loss for the Blue Streaks despite only giving up two earned runs.   Cardinals right hander Collin Hoffmann (6.0 innings, 9 hits, 2 strikeouts) was credited with the win.

 

Game Two

The Otterbein offense stayed hot starting game 2 with 4 runs in the top of the 1st. A Repar 3 run homer scored Mitchell and Sprowls.  The Cardinals tacked on another run off of a RBI single from Matthew Gibson scoring Dmitri Collaros.
 

John Carroll got on the board in the bottom of the 3rd after Henry Haracz drove in Olsavsky and Heaton to cut the Cardinal lead to 4-2.
 

Another RBI single from Gibson in the top of the 5th scored Collaros to put the Cardinals back up by the score of 5-2.  A Brayden Carter single scored Colloras and Franz to extend the Otterbein lead to 7-2.

The Blue Streaks responded with firepower of their own in the bottom of the same frame.  A Justin Hanley double scored Heaton and Olsavsky to cut the lead to 7-4.  An RBI single from Cyrus cut the Blue Streak deficit to 7-5.  A Jacob Connery walk with the bases loaded scored Cyrus to cut the Cardinal lead to 7-6.
 

Otterbein would get a run back in the top of the 6th as Sprowls scored on a Collaros steal to put Otterbein back out in front 8-6.
 

A Haracz RBI single scored Olsavsky in the bottom of the 6th to get the Blue Streaks back within a run.
 

Otterbein wasted no time getting that run back that JCU put up in the bottom of the 6th, right away in the top of the 7th.  A Carter RBI sacrifice fly scored Franz to add on to the Cardinal lead, 9-7. Barber would get a RBI sacrifice fly of his own, scoring Adam Stotler and extending their lead to 10-7.
 

Otterbein added to their lead via a Franz single, scoring Collaros and making the score 11-7.  Carter doubled down the line scoring Franz and pushing the lead to 12-7.  A wild pitch scored Stotler giving the Cardinals their biggest lead of the game at 13-7.
 

John Carroll fought back in the bottom of the 8th with 4 runs of their own to cut the Otterbein lead to 13-11.  Heaton scored on a Haracz RBI single.  Haracz scored on a Cyrus RBI double to center field.  Erik Daugenti's monster home run to right center field scored Cyrus.  
 

Unfortunately it was not enough as the Cardinals took both games from Blue Streaks this afternoon.
