Women's Soccer Beats Berg in Great Road Victory

TIFFIN, Ohio -- All of John Carroll's wins have had one thing in common this season -- one singular goal.

John Carroll won their fourth game of the season with a 1-0 road victory against the Student Princes of Heidelberg in an OAC matchup.

JCU got out to a fast start putting pressure on Heidelberg's defense early on. In the opening three minutes of the game, both Brittany Dufalla and Sydney Scello recorded shots for the Blue and Gold.

Dufalla's patience and persistence paid off at the 11:17 mark of the first half when she hit a high right shot that pushed its way to the back of the net. This goal gave John Carroll an early 1-0 lead over the Student Princes and would be the only goal scored in 90 minutes of play. For the Blue Streaks, Dufalla has now scored four of the team's five goals this season.

Heidelberg responded with two shot attempts, but both were unsuccessful. John Carroll continued their offensive momentum taking a plethora of shots in the first half. Dufalla, Macey MalinkyGrace Monnin, Kennedy Newhart and Sydney Scello were all the contributors to the nine shots John Carroll tallied in the first half. JCU outshot Heidelberg 9-5 in the first half.

Mackenzie Stease started in goal for the Blue Streaks and throughout the first half grabbed three saves.

At the beginning of the second half, Heidelberg came out with an offensive spark. They captured the first two shots of the second half, coming from Audrey Kaufman and Makenzie Damsa. Lindstrom took the first shot of the second half for the Blue and Gold at the 52:03 mark, but hers went high right.

Heidelberg continued to lead the category of shots in the second half with a 7-1 advantage in shots at the 65:32 mark of the game. Stease recorded three saves from the shots and kept the sheet clean until she was sent out of the game due to an injury.

At the 79th minute mark, Danielle DelGiudice came in for the Blue Streaks to finish the last 11 minutes of the game. Despite Heidelberg outshooting John Carroll 15-12 in the game, the Blue Streaks secured the win with Dufalla's singular goal.

The leader for John Carroll was Dufalla with one goal and four shots, three of which were on target. Malinky also contributed to the offensive efforts for JCU with three shots on the night.

Stease and DelGiudice put up a combined effort for the shutout. Stease recorded six saves on the night and DelGiudice recorded one.

With the win, John Carroll improves to 4-3-1 on the season and Heidelberg drops to 0-6-2. John Carroll will close out the regular season at home against Wilmington College on Sunday, April 11. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
