Women's Lacrosse Clinches No. 1 Seed in OAC Tourney with Win over Musky

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- After experiencing the first loss and having their contest against Mount Union canceled, John Carroll University Women's Lacrosse wanted to finish their regular season on a good note.

On April 24, John Carroll downed Muskingum, 25-1, at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, as they finish the regular season 14-1.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks clinch the #1 seed in the OAC Tournament, along with at least a share of the OAC Regular Season Championship.

"I am proud of this team for not only their win today, their but their grit this entire season," said Head Coach Rachel Dell. "We have faced adversity that we never planned for and they never wavered in their focus on winning the regular season."

Alex Heishman scored three of the first five JCU goals off of Colleen Grombala assists. Goals from Emma Workman (Jill Jarem assist) & Jarem (Kendall Gessner assist) made it 5-0 early.

Goals from Grombala (Sophie Grabowski assist), Heishman (Olivia Hanulak assist), Grombala again, Hannah Rust (Jenna Ginsberg assist), and Lainey Donalson all contributed to a 10-0 John Carroll lead.

To end the half, the Blue Streaks earned goals courtesy of Claire Mezzoprete (Heishman assist), Shannon Burdick (Grombala assist), Mary Doherty (Grombala assist), Mezzoprete (Grombala assist), and Doherty again (Grombala assist) to make it a 15-0 halftime score.

The second half delivered more of the same. Ginsberg (Hanulak assist), Gessner (Grombala assist), Mezzoprete (Grombala assist), Mezzoprete again, and Jarem (Carly Ross assist) all scored to make it 20-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold.

Muskingum then fought through to score their lone goal of the game, making it 20-1. Ginsberg (Olivia Gerlach assist), Jarem (Grombala assist), Ginsberg (Grombala assist), Grombala (Jarem assist), and Ashley Schoepfel rounded out the game's 25-1 final score.

Colleen Grombala tallied two goals on the day and added a school-record 11 assists to her name for a total of 13 points. Jill Jarem (three goals, two assists) and Alex Heishman (four goals, one assist) each had five points. Claire Mezzoprete (four goals) and Jenna Ginsberg (three goals, one assist) each tallied four points. In all, 16 different Blue Streaks tallied points on the day.

John Carroll concludes its regular season at 14-1. They begin OAC Tournament play on Thursday against an opponent to be determined.
