Men's Soccer Completes Perfect Regular Season

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- On a wet and cloudy afternoon at Williams Stadium, John Carroll University Men's Soccer closed out their regular perfect season, defeating the Wilmington Quakers (6-2) by a score of 4-2 on April 11.

With the win, John Carroll finished the regular season 8-0 and solidified the first seed in the OAC Tournament.

The John Carroll bench provided the much needed spark with three goals scored by the trio of Ryan Notarianni, William Grubbs, and Kyle Boehm.

The game featured a lot of back-and-forth action for much of the first half. The Blue Streaks had a free kick in the 12th minute with Jared Ianiro taking it, but it went just right of the goal post. It was not until the 35th minute that a shot connected with the back of the net. That goal came from John Carroll's Lawrence Cersosimo II, off the assist from Michael Burrington

Larry has now scored twice in as many games for the Blue Streaks.

Soon after, the Blue Streaks marched right back down the field, and they scored their second goal in the 37th minute. This time, it was Ryan Notarianni, who connected into the back of the net for JCU. The goal marked the first of the promising freshman's career.

Holding a 2-0 lead in the 37th minute, John Carroll was looking very promising heading into the half. But the Quakers were not finished. With only one minute to go left in the first half, Wilmington responded with a goal to cut the lead to just one. This goal came on Wilmington's first shot of the evening.

John Carroll held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first half.

Both teams knew how important the first 10 minutes of the second half would be, and responded as such. The Blue Streaks roared out of the half with great energy. This resulted in a goal for John Carroll by Will Grubbs in the 54th minute.

At this point, the Quakers needed a response and went into an attacking formation. This left more open space for John Carroll to capitalize on. It was Kyle Boehm that scored the fourth goal in the 75th minute to all but seal the deal for John Carroll.

The Quakers followed with a late goal, netting a second mark in the 89th minute.

John Carroll held on to close out their perfect season, defeating the Quakers, 4-2.

The Blue Streaks held the advantage in shots, 12-8, over Wimington as well as shots on goal, 5-4. The Quakers committed 14 fouls to JCU's 11, while both teams picked up two yellow cards a piece.

John Carroll will hold home field advantage throughout the OAC Tournament as the first seed, and will play an opponent to be determined.
